Hello, my name is Hamasen. I am located right around the south of Kaohsiung, surrounded by the mountains and sea. Because Taiwan was ruled by Japan before, my name is from the Japanese. And it means "the railways along the coast". You can still see the railways right here but it's not used now and becomes a Railway Museum.
If you visit me, there are a lot to explore. Including the Former British Consulate at Takao (Takao is the former name of Kaohsiung), it's located on a hill and you can face the sea watching the most beautiful sunset.
You might also visit the Former Japanese martial temple-Wu-De Temple, where now is used to practice Kendo since 1924. You can find the strong exotic culture from those places.
It’s always great to have a walk along the coast. You may have a drink, go fishing at the pier, or watch the beautiful yachts. You might visit the National Sun Yat-Sen University through a tunnel. Plus, go cycling along the coast is another good choice.
If you are hungry, you may go to the "Dai-Tan Temple", which was the Kaohsiung city hall in the past, but now turns to be a temple. You can try various Taiwanese foods on the square. And if you want to try more seafood, you can go to Chi-Jin Island, right next to Hamasen. It takes about 10 minutes to get there by ferry and the ticket is cheap.
Hamasen is an old town with plenty worthy historical places to be explored and there are still many places worth exploring but not mentioned here. You are very welcome to visit me and find your own favorite spots someday.
