The Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park is located in the northern Nanzi District of Kaohsiung City. The venue was re-planned and built from a landfill site. The park now embraces vast grassland and forest, including some indigenous plants. The park is divided into two main areas and it has become the best place for recreation and leisure in Southern Taiwan. Apart from the variety of indigenous plants and trees, different insect and bird species are its major attractions. Some eco-enthusiasts often come to the park for observation. I came here quite often with my mum ever since I was a little. Therefore, I am quite familiar with this park. I used to fly a kite on the grassland and ride a bicycle along the path. Now that the park has completed its second stage of the whole construction project, a pool is introduced to the park. A lot of volunteers are recruited to offer the parents and kids with free lessons and activities. This new program has successfully attracted more visitors coming to this beautiful park. I hope our school will arrange an outdoor educational trip to this park in the coming year. I think with the DIY program of making toys out of plants, will definitely arouse students’ interests and enrich our knowledge in biology.
