Meinong is the most representative Hakka community in Kaohsiung. It has beautiful Yueguang (moonlight) Mountain to its north and Laonong River to its south. Meinong is endowed with a beautiful landscape and a rich cultural heritage. It is also famous for its traditional Hakka delicacies. The local artists regularly organize cultural activities and events to promote their traditions and arts. Meinong Hakka Cultural Museum has become a well known tourist attraction and a landmark of the Meinong District . After having looked at all collections on displays, I gained deeper understanding of the multifaceted history and culture of Meinong. The building embraces multimedia facilities, antiques, relics, photographs, historical documents and literature, films, videotapes, reconstructed models, vivarium, interactive displays etc., to vividly portray the everyday lives of their ancestors. This visit was a life-like and interesting experience.

The Meinong Hakka Cultural Museum has a wide collection of antique utensils, traditional farming tools and other implements. Among all the antique collections, the so-called "wind drum" is my favorite, because I think it is a very interesting farming tool. Besides, my grandmother has a model of a "wind drum" at her house. I have seen it many times but I never knew what it was. A "wind drum" is a traditional implement used to winnow grain. The wind blows away the chaff of the grain. The other thing that I found very amazing, was the traditional Hakka blue blouse. It has beautiful color and different functions. Married and single men and women were wearing different blue blouses with different design. The blue blouse and the Hakka style fabric are two representative costumes in Hakka culture. I have been to the Hakka Cultural Museum before but I did not pay a lot of attention to the whole collections. This is my second visit and I have learned a lot from it. Meinong Hakka Cultural Museum is a good place for learning and to spend your leisure time.
